Paying for work

You approve it first. Then you pay it.

Approving a stage is what makes it payable — and only that stage. From the moment you approve, you have up to 30 days.

Nothing due before approval Up to 30 days Invoice and receipt
How it works

Four things to know about paying

1

Nothing is due until you approve

A stage only becomes payable once you've looked at the evidence and approved it. If you don't approve, nothing is owed for it.

2

Then you get up to 30 days

Your payment date is set from the approval, not from when the work started. You'll see the date in the app and get an alert before it.

3

You pay by bank transfer

The stage screen shows the account details — tap to copy them into your banking app — then tap "I've paid" so your tradesperson knows it's on the way.

4

You get an invoice and a receipt

An invoice for each approved stage, and a receipt once the payment lands. Both download as PDFs from the project.

A worked example

A £10,000 bathroom, from your side

Four stages. Two paid, one just approved, one still to come.

Bathroom renovation Total £10,000
Deposit £1,000 ✓ Paid
First fix £3,000 ✓ Paid
Tiling and installation £5,000 Approved · due in 30 days
Finishing and snagging £2,000 ◷ Not yet started
Tiling and installation — you approved it today
Stage value £5,000
Already paid on this job £4,000
Still to come £2,000
Due within 30 days £5,000

You pay the stage value you agreed. The last stage isn't payable until it's finished and you've approved it too.

The bit people ask about

Your tradesperson may get paid before you pay

Once you've approved a stage, eligible tradespeople can choose to access up to 80% of its value straight away through Rivvet, rather than waiting for your payment date. That arrangement is between them and Rivvet.

Your amount doesn't change

You pay the stage value you agreed. Whether your tradesperson takes their money early makes no difference to what you owe.

Your date doesn't change

You still have up to 30 days from your approval. You won't be asked to pay sooner because they've taken their money early.

It only follows your approval

Nothing is paid out against work you haven't approved. Your approval is what starts it, which is why the evidence matters.
